Summer Program Information

Picture
WHEN IS THE SUMMER PROGRAM?
The summer program will begin in July. Each week will offer four different project options, which will take place Monday-Thursday. These projects will typically take place between 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M., but could vary with the needs of certain agency partners. Specific times are always included in the project registration details. Youth volunteers can register for a single week or multiple weeks throughout the summer.

WHAT ARE THE COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR YVC SUMMER PROJECTS?
  • Projects will be limited to no more than 10 youth and no fewer than 2.
  • If youth volunteers or a member of their family is feeling ill, we request they do not attend the project.
  • Youth will have individual supplies/materials.
  • YVC will obtain clear and satisfactory information from agencies regarding their safety precautions and will communicate these to parents/guardians if they differ from YVC's protocol.
  • Hand washing will be encouraged frequently throughout in-person projects.
  • Hand sanitizer, wipes, and gloves will be provided at all times.
  • Face masks may be mandatory for some in-person projects.
**These guidelines are subject to change based on public health and CDC guidance.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL PROJECT LIKE?
Projects are supervised by a YVC team member. All team leaders are first-aid/CPR certified and have passed full background checks. Youth volunteers join a team of their peers, ages 11 to 18, to volunteer their time to help local nonprofits and learn about issues in Plymouth. Youth volunteers should be dropped off 15 minutes before the project begins and picked up at the scheduled pick-up time. Volunteers are introduced to one another and the agency staff, who provide instructions to the team. Team leaders engage volunteers in service-learning activities and energizer games, and facilitate meaningful reflection. Our goal is to create service that is rewarding, challenging, and educational.

IS THERE A COST TO PARTICIPATE?
YVC's summer program is offered at subsidized rates with full scholarships available to anyone demonstrating need. This cost covers all projects for the week, a YVC t-shirt, and all necessary supplies for the project.

CAN I GET A REFUND IF I CAN NO LONGER PARTICIPATE?
YVC does not offer refunds for cancellations for projects youth are unable to attend. If YVC cancels a project for any reason, all participants will receive a refund. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer to another project, if spaces are available. If this option is unavailable, your registration fee will be donated to the program.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A PROJECT IS CANCELLED?
During this uncertain time, projects may be subject to change at anytime. Cancellations will be communicated via email or text from the program director. If you prefer an alternate communication method, email yvcplymouth@gmail.com.

ARE LUNCH AND TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED?
Meals and snacks may be provided but are not guaranteed. Consult the individual project details for information on meals and snacks. Note that we cannot guarantee all dietary restrictions can be met and recommend bringing lunch, if applicable. Participants are responsible for transportation to and from the event. Project location details will be provided at sign-up and confirmed with registrants prior to events.

IS THERE A MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PROJECTS I CAN VOLUNTEER FOR?
Volunteer as much as you want! Many of our youth need a specific amount of volunteer hours for school or court-ordered community service, but many enjoy working with us so much that they volunteer hundreds of hours of their time. Youth volunteers sign up for the week(s) they want to participate and commit to attending each day of the project week, unless other arrangements have been made and confirmed by the program director.

CAN PARENTS VOLUNTEER AT PROJECTS WITH THEIR CHILDREN?
Parents are not allowed to volunteer with their youth during summer projects. One of our goals is to encourage our youth volunteers to branch out, meet new people, take responsibility for certain tasks, and learn the value of service as individuals and members of a team. Having parents around may discourage this type of growth.

Registration has not yet opened for our summer program.
